WHY DO I NEED TO BE SAVED? WHAT AM I BEING SAVED FROM?
Salvation is confusing for some of us...especially for those who have not
been "in church all my life." We may ask the questions noted above.
We may have had bad life experiences or been turned off by "Christians"
who did not live as we think they should.
God is love, so why would a Loving God send "good people" to hell?
To answer some of these questions, let's look at God's Word.
First, why do I need salvation?
You as a person are made up of emotional, physical, and spiritual
characteristics. You can fulfill your physical needs and your emotional
needs, but a void exists if your spiritual needs are not met. That void is
the emptiness your spirit feels due to sin (doing, thinking, or feeling
anything against God's will and way) and due to the absence of God in
your life (see John 4: 13-14).
Second, what am I being saved from?
Romans 3:23 says that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
"All" in that verse includes me and it includes you.
You might say... So what? If we have all sinned, then so what? Well,
there is the problem. Sin cannot fellowship with God- who has no sin.
So what happens when we sin? We cannot be with God. We cannot
remove the sin ourselves. God is a just God. With sin comes penalty.
The penalty is not only earthly death, but eternal death. (see Romans
6:23).
That also answers part of the question as to "Why would a loving God
send people to Hell?" As said, He cannot fellowship (or be in the
presence of sin). So he sent someone to pay for your sin and my sin
and the sins of everyone else because He loves you.
He sent his Son, Jesus, who did not sin and was not born in sin (he was
born of a virgin). Notice that Romans 6:23 says "the gift" of God. If I
give you a gift and you refuse to accept it, then it is not yours. To
receive the gift you must accept it. God does not send people to Hell,
people choose Hell. People choose not to accept God's free gift.
Jesus said in John 3:1-8 that you must be "born again". You were born
once from your mothers womb, but you must be born again if you wish to
see the kingdom of God.
To be born again, you must be "saved" from your sin. To learn how to
do this.... CLICK HERE
